Commuter Challenge 2006

Greater Minnesota - Commuter Information
Real Cost of Driving Alone

What is the Commuter Challenge?

It is a three month event (April thru June) designed as a fun way to promote alternate transportation options. To participate, complete the online pledge form to try one or more alternatives to driving alone to work (car/vanpool, bus, bike, walk, and/or telecommute). Completing the form automatically enters you in the prize drawing.

Carpool and vanpool: Pool your traveling resources

Cut your commuting costs in half by adding a passenger to your vehicle. Save even more by adding additional riders.

Arranging or joining a carpool or vanpool is easy. For more information contact the project coordinator.

Take the bus: Sit back and relax

You can combine your options too, by biking part of the way and busing the rest. You can store your bike on the bus transit bike racks or leave it safely in a bike locker.

Walk to work: Step right up

Yes, the oldest form of transportation - walking - is another real option for metro-area residents who live close to their place of employment or school. You also might want to bus for part of your journey and complete it by walking.

Telecommuting: Working from home

Depending on your type of work, and your employer's work policy, you may be able to completely eliminate your traditional commute by working from home. Telecommuting reduces traffic congestion, saves you time and money, and can relieve stress.
